  1. hey friend. at my hospital, they have a lactation office/center or something, i don't really know what to call it. anyway, they have some special scales and you set an appt and then go in and feed your baby and they weigh the baby before and after and can tell you how much they are getting from the boob. see if you can find a similar service at your hospital or through your lactation consultant. my hospital offers the first visit for free, but i think they cost like $80-100 for a visit, so not too expensive and worth it!

  2. I rented a scale from "a woman's work" to see how much he ate. BE CAREFUL- you get dependent and I was frustrated at how little he got through the boob vs bottle which led to my choice of pumping only. Anyway, you may just want to trust your instincts that he is getting enough and go by "pee" diapers. Of course you have your supply issue....the ladies there said to use the scale for no more than a week or you will get addicted. :)---Jenny

  3. I did the old school thing, way back then. With Alora and Ethan, I feed until they either feel asleep or well, yeah, until they feel asleep. When they get older, they get interested in other stuff and expect the boob to still be there waiting when they finally return to it. I never weighed my kids. If they were still hungry, they would let me know. I never really followed Baby Wise or any of those things. When they were tired, I let them sleep. When they were hungry, I let them eat. When they were dirty, I gave them to Kris. Seemed to work well. ;-)

  4. That's the one thing about BFing that was so confusing/scary to me in the beginning...you just don't know how much they are taking in! A scale would certainly help with that of course like Jenny said. It was nice to use every once in awhile. I kinda went with my instinct though...if she was fussy when I took her off...I assumed she wanted more. She was peeing enough and gaining weight, so I just assumed she was getting enough!

  5. You are doing good with following up with a bottle for now...then if you start to get more when you pump you can relax on that. You are doing a great job! This is your first hurdle to cross as a mom, keep in mind that this is a phase and it too shall pass. All will be right soon :).

  6. So, the best advice is to do what makes you feel comfortable. From my experience....I just let Cooper eat the same amount on each side. It ended up being about 15 minutes on each side. Sometimes he ate, sometimes he slept, sometimes he acted bored....But, they will eat when they are hungry. I did end up starting to pump when I went back to work. But, up until then I just breastfed with no bottle supplement. Let us know how it is going.
