12 month Check up!

So today since work has been too crazy for me, Matt took the Z Man in for his 12 month check up.  I had typed up my list of questions and Matt was sweet enough to pull them out and ask them all!

For the stats:
Height- 31" (75-90%)
Weight - 23.1lb (50-75%)
Head- 48cm (90%)
Since we have only been going to this doc since we moved, he was slightly concerned that Zach's head had grown so he gave us a little measuring thing to check in a couple weeks.  I was concerned so Matt tracked down the doc to talk to me on the phone and reassure me.  He said more than likely the last measurement was off from the last one and since we don't have all of Zach's stats in that office from the beginning, its not a good indicator.  But after hearing from me that Zach was often in the 90% for head, he felt much better and said to come back in a month for a recheck for peace of mind.  Whew.

Other than that....we are going through a couple days of bad diaper rash so we got a prescription for that.  And....in response to my bottle question I had listed, was informed to start working on getting rid of those!  DOH!  The night one will be the most difficult, for me that is.  But I guess maybe we can work on doing without the day time ones!  Any advice or thoughts on how to drop the bottles?

All and all he got a clean bill of health!  He had a blood and urine test done for something and all that came back clear.  Ears look good.  So we are happy about all that!  Now if we can get through these next 2 rechecks (hearing in a month and this head thing) we will be good to go.  Yay us!! :)

  3. I love the bubble picture and he just looks so happy in all of those. Yipee for a clean bill of health! As far as the bottles, we dropped them one at a time, starting with the daytime bottles, then the a.m. bottle, and lastly the bedtime bottle. We also did straight milk in the sippy and straight formula in the bottle. The first transition was hellish, Livi refused to drink out of the sippy cup for awhile, I just supplemented with cheese or yogurt. The second was easier to drop, and by the time we got to the last one it was a piece of cake. I think the transition took about 6 weeks or so. Good luck!

  4. I 2nd everything Mary said. We did it a little different. I started replacing bottles with snacks during the day...so his mid-morning and mid-afternoon bottles became snacks and then I offered 2-3 ox of formula in the sippy. Then we transitioned the morning bottle to a sippy of formula. we got the Nuby soft spout sippy cups that are meant to help transition off the bottle. Then we dropped the nighttime one. We started offering him a sippy of formula with dinner and then would offer it again right before bed. At his one year birthday, we just switched it all to milk. It took a few days for him to adjust to the milk but now he LOVES it and begs for it all day long.

  5. I transitioned JP off bottles using the Nubie sippy cups with the soft spout. Its pretty much the same thing as a bottle, just a shape difference....AND looks better in public for those bottle nazi people! Then eventually I threw those all out and we only do the hard lid sippy cups. As a Mom that pumped for 6 months and used Dr Brown's bottles with 10,000 pieces, I was NOT sad to see those go. I know alot of Mommies get sentimental with their 'babies' and bottles, but you will be doing that all over again in 9 months! Just throw away!

  8. I am a cold turkey kind of mom...one day we woke up and poof, all bottles were gone! It was not bad, just a lot of reminding Alex to drink his milk. I stayed with the same amount of milk that we was getting in the bottle. At 12 months, I went from formula to whole milk in a bottle. At 13 months, I moved the milk to a sippy. Same with diapers..one day he woke up and the diapers were in his sisters room! I think Amanda did the cold turkey thinkg with Emily's bottles as well. They were always 2 weeks ahead of us, so I must have just copied her idea :).
